What are the difference between NU, EU & IJ ?

Oilfield tubing mainly has three typical end‑connection types: NU (Non‑Upset), EU (External‑Upset) and IJ (Integral‑joint ).

NU tubing, also known as plain‑end tubing, keeps the original pipe wall thickness at both ends. It adopts short round thread connection. It is economical and widely applied in shallow and medium‑depth conventional oil wells.

EU tubing is external‑upset at pipe ends. The wall thickness is increased by forging before threading. It obtains higher joint tensile strength, fit for medium‑deep wells with high pulling load.

IJ tubing has no separate coupling. Both ends of the pipe are processed into male and female threads for direct connection. Compact structure performs well in narrow wellbore.
