Surface casing is the first and critical string installed during oil and gas well drilling. It is designed to protect shallow formations, prevent wellbore collapse, isolate groundwater and loose soil layers, and avoid shallow water and gas invasion. It also provides a stable foundation for subsequent technical casing and production casing running.
